Well done and thank you to all those who attended a conservation work day in Witham on the 27th August 2010.

Sixteen volunteers from within Boys Brigade and two ecologists from BDC helped rake, clear and move cut grass from a wildflower meadow on Mill Lane Witham, to enable and encourage wild flowers to grow. Excellent work everyone, pictures below!

On Saturday 8th May 2010 2nd Witham BB had an overnight stay at the Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker, 2nd Witham staff arranged a range of activities that encouraged young people to think about what it might be like to live in an underground bunker.Below is a video of one of the activities…

To earn my trident gold on work experience I had to complete three sub-section targets, which were, personal challenge for which I did the leadership training programme which included, enrolling people to join the course. I did this by producing a leaflet showing what you would be taking part in, this included rock climbing, scuba diving and gliding. I also filled out a YOF application form to apply for the money. This was successful and we are halfway through the course at the moment, which is going very well.

The second thing I had to complete was community involvement, which for me was quite easy. Trident gold said to complete it I would have to do at least 10 hours of voluntary work for my chosen work experience group. I have already been volunteering now for 6 years anyway, so I have already done a few more hours than 10!

The final part was work experience, which needed 100% attendance, a good amount of work and skills shown throughout the two weeks, and that my employer was happy with my progress.

These three sections built up to gain me trident gold, which I am very proud to achieve. I would like to thank everyone that helped me achieve this.

This summer 2nd Witham joined the London Docklands Scout Project for a water based activity weekend.

Many of our young people took part in this event which was attended by HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. 2nd Witham joined others in exciting water based events which included sailing and canoing, some also had the chance to meet the Prince to talk about their day.

This year Jeff, Jackie and Luke Rayner won the Guithavon award as a family. They have all committed a huge amount of their time to the work of 2nd Witham over recent years, and remain committed and loyal members to the group. The Guithavon award is the highest award that can be won in 2nd Witham, well done Rayners!!! Photo to follow!
